Do you have a wish list of the people you would like to meet one-day? Why have you selected these specific people? What would happen if we changed our wish list to say, “God, here is an open invitation to send me the people You want me to meet. This could be an incredible adventure with God!

God has a plan and purpose for each one of our lives. That includes the women we meet and encounter at work, in the community and at our church. How exciting to change our mentality from meeting people I want to meet to meeting God’s gifts to me.

In Debbie Macomber’s book, God’s Guest List, she opens with a story that mentions a woman who enters heaven and St. Peter gives her a personal tour. After touring every inch of heaven she sees a massive door to a storeroom. A beautiful shiny gold padlock has locked the door. She asks St. Peter if he could open it for her to look inside. As he opens the door the uncountable number of beautiful wrapped gifts stuffed into the room amazes her. What are all these gifts doing in here and whose are they? He explains to her that they are gifts from God that were sent to earth for her but she returned them back unopened.

Does this story make you wonder, have I missed any gifts from heaven that God has sent to earth for me? I have decided I do not want to spend my life on earth missing out on the gifts God has planned for me to open while I am alive. What about you?

Some gifts from God come to minister to us personally and others are sent for us to minister and mentor. “Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers” (Matthew 23:34 NIV). How exciting life can be for us as we allow God to control our daily guest list. We need to give Him the open invitation to “Direct our steps”(Psalm 37:23 NLT).

Steven Curtis Chapman has a great song titled, The Great Adventure. This song is a good start to your day and a great outlook at life with Christ and the people we meet. Here are the opening lyrics:

Started out this morning in the usual way, chasing thoughts inside my head of all I had to do today. Another time around the circle, try to make it better than the last. I opened up the Bible and read about You and me. It said we’d all been prisoners and God’s grace had set us all free. Somewhere between the pages, it hit me like a lightening bolt. I saw a big frontier in front of me and I heard somebody say “Let’s Go!”

Saddle up your horses; we’ve got a trail to blaze. Through the wild blue yonder of God’s amazing grace. Let’s follow our leader into the glorious unknown; this is a life like no other, woe, this is the great adventure.

So how do we become more aware of God’s little and big gifts sent to us from heaven? From now on, let’s begin looking into each face we meet with anticipation of a divine appointment. Let’s ask ourselves, “Could this person be Heaven Sent?” God doesn’t always gift wrap every one of His gifts in beautiful packages. Some gifts may even be labeled unlovely or challenging, but He does send each gift with a tag that reads “Sent from Heaven with love from God.”
