By Jayme Hull-

What will you do in the New Year with your investments? Have you made a plan for the future? God gives us all the wisdom and guidance for our future investments we will ever need.

This year I am planning on being very intentional with my investments of every kind. I am committing to the Lord my heart and time to follow Him in His Word and commandments. I desire to seek His Word on all matters of my life and see things from His godly perspective. I am choosing to be set apart from the world’s perspectives and ways.

How about you? How are your investments?

I am starting the New Year with a plan to grow spiritually and invest more of my time each day seeking the Lord by reading the Bible, studying commentaries, praying and spending more time with godly people who are desiring to grow in their walk with God.

If that statement makes you feel tired, frustrated, discouraged or skeptical you are not alone. Keep reading. New Year Beginnings are a blessing. I want to encourage you to look at this New Year in the positive outlook and not the negative. What a privilege we have to be alive and have the opportunity to restart and be refreshed.

Be bold and give the Lord your complete heart and life. Yes, I am talking about your time set aside for God. If you give Him your attention and undivided heart to learn more of Him, you will not be disappointed. God’s Word will not return empty. (Isaiah 55:11 NIV) May I suggest that you start with a few of the following chapters:

Ephesians 5; 1 John; Psalm 119;Proverbs 20

How much time are we talking about? Start small and start today.

All of the experts tell us if we do anything regularly for thirty-one days it will become a habit. Start today with 15 minutes. Time with the Lord needs to be exclusively alone and in a quiet place where you can read the Word of God and hear Him speak to you.

I have learned from my time with the Lord that as I grow in Him, I am then available to invest in others and pour into other women I mentor.  What I receive from my one-on-one time alone with God is what I pour into others.

When Jesus spent time at the home of the two sisters Mary and Martha he didn’t blame Martha for being concerned about cleaning and cooking but He ask her to reset her priorities or what I am calling “her time investments.” Jesus said,” but only one thing is needed.”(Luke 10:42 NIV) Jesus was asking her to take the time to sit at His feet and spend time with Him.

This New Year let’s do the “only one thing that is needed” which is investing our time alone with the Lord. Then, we will be equipped to Mentor and make the investment in others.

“It is interesting that of all the ways Paul could have told the women to combat the decadence of their culture, he told them to invest their energies in teaching their younger women to live Christianly in their society.” Susan Hunt

I am excited to watch what the Lord will do in my life and yours this New Year. As we make new investments this year meeting Him alone in our quiet time and investing in others not only will our lives be changed, but so will the lives of others. Happy New Year!
