A few years back we heard the news story of a pilot coming in for a landing and receiving no answer as he tried to contact the air traffic controller. Attempting to land a plane with no connection to the controller is very dangerous. The controller’s job is to warn against impending hazrds and guide the pilot to safety. Following an investigation it was determined that the controller had fallen asleep at his station. Pilots are dependent on the control tower to help them take off and land safely.

Caring for young children is an exhausting and relentless responsibility. After a day of chasing, guarding, guiding and protecting against impending dangers, parents are eager for bedtime. Tucking them in at night we are awed at the serenity of a sleeping child. Later, before retiring ourselves, we check on them one more time to make sure all is well.

Scripture indicates God’s relentless protection for his children. The ultimate traffic controller, the Lord neither sleeps nor slumbers. As the Psalmist notes, My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber (Psalm 121:2-3 NRSV).

When trouble stalks the path we tread,
We need assurance, Lord, to know
That all our steps are being led—
That You, our Lord, are in control.
–D. De Haan

Isn’t it good to know the Controller? Our assurance lies in the knowledge that He is always on duty. Our heavenly Father knows the impending dangers we face and will tirelessly guard, guide, and protect us. And He checks again and again to make sure all is well.

Yes, indeed he does watch over us!
I’m so glad my mom and dad taught me to trust in the best controller there is.

    Love ya Peggy,
